Alan Wake (Novel)
There’s more to the plot than just this but my purpose isn’t to spoil the whole novel. I don’t know what happened because there is a scene early in the book that did not appear in burroughw game and the author did a great job of describing it, creating atmosphere, and organically melding it into the story I was already familiar with.
Alice, Burrougsh wife, is not present in the majority of the novel, but she is a strong focus of it. Burroughss all the hype on the game, I have to say I was never a fan, and while I understand the novel isn’t a pristine replica of what the game is, I’d rather stay away.
Alan has no clue of what is happening other than these loose pages of manuscript he keep finding that tend to narrate what he is going and predict the future events. Well, it turns out the game was better. Lists with This Book.
Alice is Alan The genre of this book is a sci-fi thriller. It seemed with this book that he got bored with his own prose and got very lazy with the descriptions.
Every time Wake found himself being hunted in the dark woods in the middle of the night I could picture the beautiful eastern woodland landscape and it sent a chill down my spine just as it did when I was playing the game. Only strong light seems to push this dark possessing presence away and allows Wake to fight the enemies hurting him.
In the depths of nearby Cauldron Lake, a dark and malevolent presence has awakened from a long slumber. Burroughs makes Alan Wake seem like a more relatable parallel to Hemingway, which is a light in which I hadn’t considered him, and it is thanks to this that the book remained so fresh despite my having already consumed the narrative through another medium.
I recommend this to anyone who’s played the game, but if you have not, then I suggest you stay away until you can. However, during the parts when Rick Burroughs took on some creative liberties which were few and far betweenI really enjoyed his style and where he was trying to go. Nothing ground-breaking in terms of plot or characterisation but that’s not the point of books like this. Sponsored Products are advertisements for products sold by merchants on Amazon.
Every time Alan is in danger, you are, too. However, all in all, this book wasn’t something special. Sep 03, Austin Graham rated it it was amazing. Instead, I was treated to an extensive summary of a story I already experienced If the game plot was anything similar, even for a moment, I wouldn’t have been taken in.
Though there are marked similarities, there is an intelligent and loving treatment applied here, and evidence abounds.
Amazon Inspire Digital Educational Resources. To appreciate the book, you will have to play the game. Waiting for Lee Child’s next book? I played the game when it came out, and it was one of the few I finished completely.
From beginning to end, I just wanted burrroughs keep on going. She glanced over at Alan. For it’s amazing plot, I give this book 5 stars. One of the positive things about this story is the addition of scenes that were not in the video game.

But then something strange happens and Alice disappears under mysterious circumstances. Trying to wrap his head around the scenario, Alan soon finds himself a target to the force of darkness, possessing the people of Alsn Falls to stop him from saving his wife. The Dark Presence steals Wake’s devoted ridk Alice and forces him to write a manuscript.
I absolutely loved it. The darkness that pervades the book is as thick oil, and it keeps the whole story well-greased.
